The Emergence of Somatic Wisdom

Hey lovely souls, welcome back to this digital campfire of the Wild Wellness Blog. Go ahead and take a moment right now—yes, right this second—to grab a warm mug of tea, adjust your posture, take a deep, belly-expanding breath, and let your shoulders drop away from your ears. Feel the weight of your thighs resting against the chair. Welcome back into the present moment.

As I sit here typing these words to you, a heavy rain is falling down outside, washing over the garden on this quiet, deeply overcast winter day. Looking out the window, the world feels wrapped in a dense blanket of gray. It’s the kind of weather that naturally coaxes us to curl inward, but it also has a sneaky way of mirroring itself in our moods. If we rely entirely on the outside world to dictate our vitality, an overcast sky can leave us feeling just as dim and heavy inside.

Today, I feel is a wonderful time to dive deep into a quiet, beautiful, yet fiercely revolutionary movement happening right beneath our skin—a practice of cultivating our own internal atmosphere. We are living through an era that is completely intoxicated by the external mind. Everywhere we look, the collective obsession centers on algorithms, machine learning, and the frantic race to optimise every micro-second of our existence through glowing screens. We are constantly pressured to outsource our thinking, our productivity, and even our happiness to digital constructs.

As the sterile noise of the tech landscape grows louder and the winter weather settles in, an ancient, subterranean truth is waking up within us. It is a slow, powerful reclamation. It is the realisation that while technology can process vast, staggering oceans of binary data, our biological, deeply felt body intelligence will always trump artificial intelligence.

It is time to be honest about what technology lacks.

AI can mimic human language with eerie precision, write poetry based on formulas, and analyse patterns across millions of lives. But it cannot feel the sudden burst of goosebumps when a profound truth hits home. It cannot experience the heavy, visceral warning contraction in the gut when entering an unsafe room, nor can it replicate the expansive, radiating warmth of true human love. Those are not algorithms; they are biological symphonies. The digital world can simulate consciousness, but it can never inhabit it.

True wisdom does not belong to the machines; it belongs to the Soma.

We use the word “somatic” a lot in contemporary wellness spaces, but its lineage is deeply rooted and beautiful. The word Soma originates from the ancient Greek word sōma, which historically meant the living, breathing body in its absolute wholeness—distinct from a mere physical corpse or an anatomical object under a microscope.

When the Greeks spoke of the soma, they weren’t talking about a biomechanical shell that carries a brain around from meeting to meeting. They were talking about the unified self. Somewhere over centuries of Western thought, we split ourselves in two; we came to believe that the mind is the intelligent master and the body is just a dumb, unruly beast of burden that needs to be tamed, starved, trained, and ignored.

Connecting to your soma means radically reversing this split. It requires shifting your entire locus of awareness from thinking about your body to actively inhabiting your body. It is the transition from looking at your reflection in a mirror and judging its shape, to closing your eyes and feeling the electrical hum of life vibrating in your fingertips. The soma is the seat of your raw, unfiltered, and uncorrupted wisdom. It holds the memories your conscious mind has neatly repressed, and it registers reality long before your logical brain can formulate a sentence.

Looking back out at the gloomy Southern Hemisphere sky on 25th of June, 2026, we are currently moving through the potent Waxing Gibbous moon phase.

In mainstream wellness, people often talk about the waning moon as the default time for listening to body signals, associating it with rest and release. The Waxing Gibbous phase carries a completely different, equally vital somatic invitation. This is the phase of amplification, accumulation, and building pressure just before the climax of the Full Moon. The light is growing, and internally, our energy is rising—even if the sun is hidden behind thick clouds today.

Because of this celestial and seasonal timing, internal signals of your body might feel a little louder, more intense, or even uncomfortably sharp right now. Combined with the dreary weather, you might notice a strange restlessness settling in your limbs, or a heavy lethargy trying to take over.

The conventional world tells us to pathologize this. It labels these shifting internal states as “anxiety” or “gloom” to be immediately fixed, medicated, or distracted away with infinite scrolling. But the somatic way is entirely different: we listen without judgment. We use this somatic wisdom to realise that we have the power to shift our internal state, completely independent of whatever the weather is doing outside. The gloom outside does not have to become the gloom inside.

When the sky is gray and you need to generate your own internal radiance, your mind cannot simply logic you into a better mood. You have to speak to the nervous system through the body. Here are a few of my absolute favourite, deeply accessible ways to drop back down into your soma and spark that inner light:

The Barefoot Grounding Check-In: I know it might be raining and cold out there, but trust me on this. Step out onto a covered porch, or even just feel the cold tiles or wooden floorboards inside. The crisp physical sensation forces your nervous system to instantly regulate and pulls your energy down out of an overactive, foggy mind. Close your eyes and mentally map the exact points of pressure on the soles of your feet. Let your brain rest its analytical gears completely while your nerve endings do the talking.

The Solar Plexus Awakening: To create sunshine within, go directly to your internal sun—the solar plexus (the space just below your ribs). Rub your hands together vigorously until they are hot with friction, then place them directly onto your bare skin over your stomach. Breathe deeply into that warmth. Visualise a brilliant, bright, golden light expanding from your center with every inhale, flooding your organs with heat and vitality, melting away the external dampness.

Somatic Breath Tracking: Forget rigid, militaristic breathwork where you force yourself into strict counts. Instead, simply track your natural breath like a curious observer. Notice where the inhale naturally stops or hits a roadblock on this rainy day. Is it catching in your throat? Is your chest tight? Don’t try to change it or “fix” it. Just breathe into the tight spot, imagining the breath as warm sunlight loosening up cold joints. Awareness alone softens the armor.

Intuitive Shaking (TRE-inspired): When the overcast weather makes you feel heavy and stagnant, you need to break up the emotional condensation. Put on a raw, rhythmic song that moves you, stand up, soften your knees, and just let your hands, shoulders, jaw, and legs shake out for three to five minutes. Animals shake to discharge stress and wake up their muscles. Doing this clears out the internal fog and gets your blood, lymph, and life-force energy circulating like a bright, clearing wind.

Your mind can be tricked by clever marketing, compelling logic, or even a dreary weather forecast. Your body cannot. The tissues, cells, and nervous system carry the unadulterated truth of your direct experience—and they know how to stoke their own fire.

In the world of Wild Wellness with Hannah, Somatic Wisdom is the art of becoming deeply attuned to the intelligence of your own nervous system. It is a sacred conversation between body, mind, and soul—a practice of cultivating a profound relationship with the innate wisdom that lives within you. Through breath, sensation, movement, emotion, and intuition, we learn to listen deeply to the messages our bodies are constantly communicating. Rather than living solely from the thinking mind, Somatic Wisdom invites us into direct experience, where the body becomes a trusted guide toward healing, resilience, vitality, authenticity, and self-trust. By honouring the natural rhythms of the body and responding with awareness, curiosity, and compassion, we awaken an even deeper connection to ourselves and our capacity to live fully embodied, aligned, and authentic lives.

Be intentional as you commit to honouring our magnificent organic architecture. The next time you find yourself overwhelmed, fatigued, or chilled by a rainy day, close your eyes, place one warm hand over your heart and one over your belly, and remember that you carry an unbreakable summer within you. It has taken millions of years to perfect the technology inside you—don’t trade it for a screen, and don’t let a rainy day steal your light.

With wild warmth and untamed love,

Hannah
